CHAPTER 19 · PART 3 OF 3
How to Grow Your Online Business: Turn Customer Interest Into Lasting Opportunities!
WISELY SHARE…
Discover how to recognize what's working, learn from your customers + make thoughtful decisions that help turn meaningful connections into worthwhile opportunities for your business to grow - with confidence, consistency + purpose!
💛 Your Business Is Getting Discovered. Now What Happens NEXT?
Hello, my wise friend!
Imagine something wonderful.
You’ve created a product or service you’re genuinely excited to share.
You’ve thoughtfully prepared your online boutique, made your offers easier to discover + begun sharing helpful content with people who might LOVE what you’ve created.
And now, little by little, things are beginning to happen!
Someone visits your website.
Another person enjoys one of your posts.
Perhaps a potential customer asks a question about your service.
Or you receive a lovely message from someone who’s just discovered your business!
Exciting, isn’t it?
But somewhere along the way, you may begin wondering:
“Is all this effort actually helping my business grow?”
“How do I know what I should keep doing?”
“And how can I turn these encouraging little moments into something more meaningful for my future?”
Well, my wise friend, those are WONDERFUL questions!
Because there’s an important difference between being busy marketing your business – and understanding how your efforts are contributing to its success.
In our previous chapters, we’ve explored how to help customers discover your business through search, create content that Inspires, Informs + Impacts, and share your wonderful ideas with the right people.
Now it’s time to connect those pieces.
And by the time we’ve finished, you’ll know how to recognize three important moments in your customer’s journey, understand what those results may mean for your business + choose ONE worthwhile decision to help guide your next stage of growth!
Every customer discovery, question + purchase can teach you something valuable about the business you're building - and help you recognize where your next wonderful opportunity might be!
And here’s the encouraging part.
You don’t need complicated reports or years of business experience to begin.
You can start with a few meaningful observations, some thoughtful questions + a willingness to learn.
Because business growth isn’t simply something you hope will happen.
It’s something you can begin understanding, improving + guiding through the decisions you make!
🌷 Discover the Difference Between Attention + Meaningful Growth!
Let’s begin with something that can be surprisingly easy to overlook.
Imagine you’ve shared a beautiful photograph of one of your products.
Hundreds of people see it.
Some even give it a little heart!
Wonderful!
Now imagine another post reaches far fewer people – but introduces three genuinely interested customers to your online boutique.
One asks a question.
Another explores your product collection.
And someone makes a purchase.
Which post was more valuable?
Well, that depends on what you hoped to accomplish + what happened afterward!
And that’s exactly the point.
Not every marketing activity creates the same kind of opportunity for your business.
Some activities help people become aware of you.
Others encourage interest.
And some help interested people make the decision to purchase, book or take another meaningful step.
All can play an important role. But they aren’t interchangeable.
💛 Look Beyond the Numbers That Are Easiest to See!
It’s exciting when your content receives views, likes or followers.
And those signals may tell you something useful about how people are responding.
But they don’t automatically tell you whether someone is interested in your offers – or whether your business is becoming more successful.
A thousand views might introduce your business to people who’ve never heard of you.
A handful of inquiries might reveal that customers are seriously considering your services.
And one profitable sale might make a meaningful contribution to your business.
Each tells a different part of the story.
Wise little thought: The most impressive number isn’t always the one that matters most to the business you’re building!
Here’s another important distinction.
Before deciding whether a marketing activity worked, remember what you wanted it to accomplish.
If you shared an article to introduce new people to your business, meaningful discoveries may be an encouraging result.
If you invited interested customers to book a consultation, confirmed bookings may be more relevant.
And if you introduced a new product, you might want to understand both customer interest + actual purchases.
The wisest way to evaluate an activity begins with understanding its purpose.
So, how do you begin making sense of it all?
Let’s explore three especially useful moments.
🦋 Follow the Three Moments That Help You Understand Customer Interest!
Imagine someone discovering your business for the very first time.
Perhaps they find a helpful article.
Enjoy what you’ve shared.
Explore one of your offers.
And eventually decide to purchase or book.
There’s a natural progression here.
And understanding it can help you recognize where your marketing is creating opportunities – and where a thoughtful improvement might make a difference.
01. ✨🔎DISCOVERY
Are People Finding Your Business?
The first moment is discovery.
Someone encounters your business, content or offer.
Perhaps through an online search.
A social media post.
A recommendation.
Or a helpful resource someone shared.
At this stage, you might notice things such as:
- Visits to your website or important pages.
- People discovering your content through search.
- Views or reach on relevant social posts.
- Visitors arriving through shared links or recommendations.
These signals can help you understand whether your business is being discovered.
But discovery alone doesn’t tell the entire story.
Someone may visit your website out of curiosity.
Another person may be actively looking for exactly what you offer.
And those two visits could represent very different opportunities.
Your first question isn’t simply how MANY people discovered you – but whether you’re reaching people who might genuinely appreciate what you’ve created.
02. 💡🩷INTEREST
Are People Exploring What You've Created?
Now imagine someone has discovered your business.
Something catches their attention.
They begin exploring!
Perhaps they click through to a product page.
Read more about your service.
Ask a question.
Or subscribe to receive a helpful resource.
These actions may suggest that someone wants to learn more.
And that’s exciting!
Because interest can reveal which ideas, products + messages are resonating with the people you hope to serve.
You might notice:
- Visitors exploring a particular product or service.
- People clicking a relevant link from your content.
- Questions about pricing, options or availability.
- Requests for more information.
- People choosing to receive further communications.
Not every interested person is ready to purchase.
And that’s perfectly natural.
Some people need more information.
Others want time to consider their options.
And some may simply be exploring possibilities for the future.
Your opportunity is to understand what they’re looking for + make it easy to continue when they’re ready.
03. 🛍️🌟ACTION
Are Meaningful Connections Becoming Business Opportunities?
And now comes another exciting moment.
Someone decides to take action!
Perhaps they purchase a product.
Book a consultation.
Register for a paid service.
Or make another commitment that matters to your business.
These actions help you understand whether your marketing + selling efforts are beginning to create tangible results.
And here’s something especially important.
The meaningful action depends on what your business actually offers!
For a product boutique, it may be a completed purchase.
For a service provider, it might be a confirmed booking.
For a business offering customized solutions, a qualified inquiry may be an important step toward a later sale.
The goal isn’t to make every visitor purchase immediately.
It’s to understand how people move from discovering your business to recognizing something valuable – and deciding whether it’s right for them.
And remember, not every customer follows the same path.
Someone might purchase on their first visit.
Another person might return several times.
And someone else might discover you through a friend’s recommendation + contact you directly.
These three moments help you understand customer behavior. They aren’t rigid steps every customer must follow.
DISCOVERY opens the door.
INTEREST reveals what matters.
ACTION helps turn meaningful connections into opportunities for your business!
And when you begin recognizing these moments, you can make more thoughtful decisions about what to improve next
💛 Let's Follow One Wonderful Customer Attraction Example!
Now, let’s make this practical!
Imagine you offer personalized online home organization consultations.
You’ve created a helpful article about organizing a busy family entryway.
You share it thoughtfully with an audience who might appreciate the advice.
And over the next month, you begin noticing some encouraging results.
Let’s imagine your records show the following.
📊 Your Monthly Marketing Results -
An Illustration
What Happened
Visits to your helpful article
Monthly Result
200
Visits continuing from the article to your consultation page
40
Customer inquiries
8
Paying customers
3
These are fictional results for illustration. They assume the relevant visits and customer actions can be reasonably connected for this example.
Now, isn’t that interesting?
Your article attracted 200 visits.
Forty of those visits continued to your consultation page.
Eight people made inquiries.
And three became paying customers.
Let’s explore what these numbers might reveal.
What Can You Learn From
✨🔎 Discovery?
First, people are finding your article!
That’s encouraging.
Perhaps your topic is relevant to the people you’re trying to reach.
Or perhaps the way you’ve shared it is helping it get discovered.
But we’d want to understand a little more before drawing conclusions.
Where did those visitors come from?
Were they people likely to appreciate your services?
And is this result typical – or simply an especially successful month?
The numbers offer clues, not automatic answers.
What Can You Learn From
💡🩷 Interest?
Next, forty visits continued from the article to your consultation page.
That’s 20% of the article visits in our simplified example.
Wonderful!
This suggests that some visitors were interested enough to explore further.
Perhaps the article addressed a challenge they recognized.
Or the invitation to learn about your consultations felt relevant.
Now imagine that very few people had continued to the service page.
You might consider whether the invitation was easy to find, clearly worded + genuinely relevant.
Or whether the article was reaching people who wanted organizing advice but weren’t interested in hiring someone.
Either way, you’ve discovered something worth exploring.
What Can You Learn From
🛍️🌟Action?
And now, three people have booked your service!
Those bookings are tangible business results.
But here’s where I want you to think like a wise business owner.
What did those bookings actually contribute to your business?
Let’s take our example one step further.
Imagine each consultation costs $200.
Three bookings would generate $600 in sales revenue.
Now suppose delivering those consultations involves $180 in direct expenses, plus six hours of your time.
That leaves $420 after those direct expenses – but before accounting for the value or cost of your time, any additional marketing expenses + other business costs.
Suddenly, we’re asking a more meaningful question.
Not simply:
“Did my marketing generate three bookings?”
But:
“Were those bookings worthwhile for my customers, my business + the time and resources required to deliver them?”
Perhaps they were!
And perhaps you’d discover an opportunity to improve your delivery process, review your pricing or make the service more efficient before investing in attracting additional customers.
That’s the difference between recognizing a marketing result + understanding its business value.
👟 Wise Pro Move:
If you already have an established business, compare the financial contribution and delivery requirements of different offers – not just how frequently they sell.
Your most popular offer isn’t necessarily your most rewarding one.
Remember: This entire example is fictional. Actual results will vary, and tracking systems may not capture every customer interaction or accurately attribute every sale to one marketing activity.
🌷 Learn From What Your Customers Are Telling You!
Here’s something else I absolutely LOVE about understanding customer interest.
Not every valuable insight comes from a report!
Sometimes, your customers tell you exactly what matters to them.
Through their questions.
Their comments.
The products they explore.
And the things they say they wish were available.
Imagine someone asks:
“Do you offer evening consultation appointments?”
Perhaps that’s something worth considering.
Another person might say:
“I loved your article, but I’m not sure which service would be right for my family.”
That could reveal an opportunity to make your service descriptions clearer.
Or perhaps several customers are especially interested in one particular product.
You may have discovered an offer that deserves more attention!
💛 Look for Patterns, Not Just Individual Reactions!
Of course, one question doesn’t necessarily mean everyone wants the same thing.
And one successful post doesn’t guarantee that every similar post will perform equally well.
But when you begin noticing recurring interests, questions + behaviors, you may discover patterns worth exploring.
Perhaps people repeatedly ask about a particular service.
Maybe one collection attracts meaningful interest but few purchases.
Or perhaps customers who discover your business through helpful articles often ask especially thoughtful questions.
Each observation can help you become more informed.
And here’s a distinction I especially want you to remember:
A customer request is an opportunity to evaluate – not automatically something your business must accommodate.
Let’s return to those evening appointments.
If several customers would appreciate them, that’s useful information.
But before adding evening availability, you’d also want to consider whether those appointments would be worthwhile financially, practical to deliver + compatible with the life you want your business to support.
Perhaps the answer is YES!
Or perhaps you could offer another solution that serves customers beautifully without requiring you to work every evening.
That’s thoughtful business decision-making.
✨ Turn Customer Insights Into Thoughtful Improvements!
Once you’ve recognized something meaningful, what do you DO with that information?
You begin exploring opportunities to improve.
Here are three situations worth understanding.
If people aren’t discovering your business…
Consider whether your titles, descriptions + helpful content reflect what your customers are looking for.
Perhaps there’s an opportunity to improve one search phrase or share an existing resource with a more relevant audience.
If people discover you but don’t explore further…
Look at how your content connects to your offers.
Is the next step easy to find?
Does it feel relevant to what the visitor has just discovered?
And does your message make the value of exploring further clear?
If people show interest but don’t take action…
Consider whether your offer answers their important questions.
Do customers understand what’s included, how the process works + what they can expect?
Perhaps a clearer description, more helpful explanation or simpler booking experience would make a difference.
The goal isn’t to pressure people into purchasing.
It’s to help interested customers understand their options + choose confidently when something is right for them!
And this connects beautifully with Chapter 14, where we explored creating an online boutique customers genuinely LOVE to shop.
Your marketing helps people discover your business.
Your customer experience helps them feel comfortable exploring + choosing.
Both matter.
🌱 Improve Thoughtfully - Then Learn From What Happens!
Here’s a practical principle I especially like.
When you identify an opportunity, choose an improvement that matters.
Make the change.
Give it an appropriate amount of time.
And observe what happens.
Perhaps you update a service description.
Make a relevant link easier to find.
Or refine the way you introduce an article.
Then notice whether the change appears to help.
Remember that customer behavior can be influenced by many things, including timing, seasonality + how many people have seen your offer.
A small change in results doesn’t automatically prove that your improvement caused it.
But thoughtful observation can help you make increasingly informed decisions.
Use the information you have, recognize what it cannot tell you + make the most thoughtful decision available.
🌟 Remember That More Sales Don't Automatically Mean More Success!
Now, here’s something I believe is especially important.
Imagine your marketing begins attracting more customers.
Your sales increase.
Wonderful!
But what if fulfilling those additional orders requires so much time, expense or effort that very little financial reward remains?
Or perhaps your business is generating more revenue, but you’re becoming increasingly overwhelmed by the work required to deliver it.
Is that the kind of growth you were hoping to create?
This is why I believe it’s important to look beyond marketing activity – and even beyond sales alone.
💛 Consider What Your Growth Is Actually Creating!
When evaluating a marketing opportunity, there are several dimensions worth considering.
Customer Value
Are people receiving something they genuinely appreciate?
Are your products, services + customer experiences delivering the value you promised?
Financial Value
Are the resulting sales creating worthwhile financial rewards after the relevant expenses?
Does the offer contribute meaningfully to your business?
Operational Capacity
Can your business deliver consistently while maintaining the quality customers deserve?
What happens if demand increases?
Lasting Customer Relationships
Are customers satisfied?
Do they return, recommend your business or discover additional offers that serve their needs?
These questions are connected.
For example, imagine you’ve created a service that customers LOVE.
Your marketing introduces it to more people.
Bookings begin increasing!
But if delivering every booking requires many hours of your personal time, you may eventually need to consider how much capacity you have, whether the price appropriately supports your business + how you want that service to develop.
Or perhaps you sell a digital resource that customers can purchase + access through your online boutique.
You may discover opportunities to serve additional customers without the same amount of individual delivery time.
Of course, digital products have their own development, marketing, technology + support requirements.
Different offers create different opportunities + demands.
And neither is automatically better.
What matters is understanding how each contributes to the business you’re creating.
👟 Wise Pro Move:
Before investing in more marketing for an offer that’s already selling, consider whether perfecting the offer, pricing, delivery process or customer experience could create an even more worthwhile result.
Because sometimes the wisest growth decision isn’t to sell MORE of something.
It’s to make what you’re already selling work even better!
💌 Think Beyond the First Purchase!
And here’s another wonderful possibility.
A customer discovers your business.
They purchase something they LOVE.
They enjoy the experience.
And perhaps, sometime later, they return!
Or recommend your business to someone special.
Or discover another product or service that would be meaningful to them.
Now your first connection may have become the beginning of a longer relationship.
And that can create valuable opportunities for your business.
🌷 Give Happy Customers Wonderful Reasons to Return!
Perhaps someone purchases a handmade candle from your boutique.
They enjoy the fragrance, presentation + thoughtful experience.
Later, they return to explore another scent.
Or discover a gift collection for a special occasion.
Perhaps they recommend your boutique to a friend.
You can’t guarantee that these things will happen.
But you can create an experience that makes returning + recommending feel natural.
Clear communication.
Dependable service.
Relevant new offers.
Thoughtful follow-up when appropriate.
And permission-based messages that people genuinely enjoy receiving.
All can help support continued customer relationships.
💛 Recognize the Value of a Lasting Customer Relationship!
Sometimes, a business owner focuses so closely on attracting new customers that they overlook the people who’ve already chosen their business.
But those customers may have valuable insights.
They know what they enjoyed.
What could be improved.
And what else they might appreciate.
Listening to them can help you refine your offers + discover new opportunities.
And when someone returns or recommends your business, that’s something worth noticing!
Because growth doesn’t always mean finding an entirely new audience.
Sometimes it comes from serving your existing customers so thoughtfully that they enjoy continuing the relationship.
A first purchase is a wonderful achievement. A lasting customer relationship can become an even more meaningful opportunity!
🦋 Discover the Power of a Simple Wise Growth Review!
Now, you may be thinking:
“This all makes sense, Angela – but how do I bring these ideas together without creating another enormous job for myself?”
Wonderful question!
And here’s my encouragement.
Start with a simple Wise Growth Review.
Once a month – or at another interval that makes sense for your business – take a little time to consider what you’ve learned.
You might have website information, customer inquiries, sales records + feedback.
Or perhaps you’re just beginning, with only a few observations to explore.
Either way, the purpose is the same:
Recognize what’s happening, understand what matters + decide what deserves your attention next.

✨ What Do Your Answers Reveal?
Perhaps you’re already discovering encouraging signs of progress!
A product that’s attracting genuine interest.
A helpful article that’s introducing new people to your business.
A service customers are beginning to book.
Or a lovely recommendation from someone who enjoyed what you’ve created.
And perhaps you’ve also recognized something you’d LOVE to improve.
Maybe a popular page needs a clearer invitation.
An offer could answer customer questions more effectively.
Or a marketing activity deserves a closer look to understand whether it’s creating worthwhile results.
Your answers may point toward four useful decisions.
CONTINUE something that’s creating meaningful value.
IMPROVE something that has potential but could work better.
EXPLORE a new opportunity that deserves a thoughtful test.
PAUSE an activity that no longer deserves the time or resources it requires.
And that last decision is worth remembering.
Because wise growth isn’t only about deciding what to add.
It’s also about recognizing where your efforts are most worthwhile.
You don't have to do MORE of everything to grow.
You can learn what creates value, improve what matters + build thoughtfully on what WORKS!
And that, my wise friend, is an exciting way to approach the future of your business!

Angela's Wise Perspective
There’s something I’ve learned through years of advising businesses, working with complex organizations + helping leaders make decisions about strategy, systems, operations + financial performance.
Growth is not automatically the same as success.
And perhaps even more importantly:
Not every opportunity to grow is an opportunity worth pursuing.
Now, that may sound surprising.
After all, isn’t attracting more customers, generating more sales + expanding a business exactly what entrepreneurs hope to accomplish? Of course, those can be wonderful achievements!
But here’s what I’d LOVE you to consider. Imagine your marketing is working beautifully.
People are discovering your offers. Customers are making purchases.
And demand is increasing!
Wonderful!
But now imagine that every additional sale requires so much time, expense or personal attention that your business becomes increasingly difficult to manage.
Perhaps your revenue is growing, but your financial rewards aren’t increasing proportionately.
Perhaps customers are waiting longer for the service they expected.
Or perhaps the freedom you hoped your business would create is disappearing beneath an ever-growing workload.
Would pursuing even MORE sales necessarily be your wisest next decision?
Not always, my friend.
And that’s why I believe every entrepreneur deserves to understand something about the relationship between marketing, selling, managing + financial performance.
They’re not separate little worlds.
They’re connected parts of ONE business – and the decisions you make in one area influence what becomes possible in the others.
💛 Learn to Recognize the Opportunities Worth Pursuing!
Imagine you discover that one of your services is attracting especially strong customer interest.
You could immediately decide to promote it more widely.
But perhaps a wiser first step would be to consider:
Can I deliver more of this service while maintaining the experience my customers deserve?
Does its price create worthwhile financial rewards after the costs + time required?
Could a thoughtful improvement make delivery easier or more efficient?
And would growing this particular service support the kind of business + life I want to build?
Now you’re doing something more powerful than simply reacting to encouraging marketing results.
You’re evaluating an opportunity in the context of your ENTIRE business.
Perhaps the wisest decision is to reach more customers.
Perhaps it’s to perfect an existing offer.
Improve a process.
Refine your pricing.
Or create a related product or service that allows you to serve customers in a different way.
And sometimes, the wisest decision is to say:
“This opportunity is interesting – but it isn’t the right priority for my business right now.”
That’s not a missed opportunity.
That’s thoughtful business leadership.
🦋 Build a Business That Rewards Your Efforts + Supports Your Life!
Now imagine what becomes possible when you begin approaching growth this way.
You understand which activities are introducing meaningful customer opportunities.
You recognize which offers are creating worthwhile results.
You notice where customers would appreciate a better experience.
And you begin making decisions that connect your marketing, selling + managing with the future you’re working to create.
Perhaps you want more time with your family.
The freedom to travel.
The opportunity to create new products.
Or simply greater control over how you spend your days.
Those ambitions deserve a place in your business decisions, too!
Because the goal isn’t simply to create a busier business.
It’s to build a business that serves your customers beautifully, rewards the value you create + supports the life YOU want to live.
And that’s why I believe learning to recognize what’s working is so important.
Not because every number needs to become bigger.
