CHAPTER 13 · PART 2 OF 3

How to Price Your Products + Services for Profit and Success!

WISELY SHARE…

Discover how to price your wonderful offers with confidence, communicate their value + create exciting opportunities for a more profitable business!

🦋 What If Your Prices Could Help You Build the Business You Dream Of?

Well, my wise friend, imagine you’ve created a wonderful product or service that you’re absolutely delighted to offer!

Perhaps it’s something you’ve dreamed of bringing to life for years.

Maybe you’ve combined your talents, knowledge + experience into a service that could make a meaningful difference in someone’s life.

Or perhaps you already have a lovely online boutique, with customers happily purchasing the products + services you’ve worked so thoughtfully to create.

Now, imagine that wonderful moment when someone decides to buy!

Your very first sale.

Another delighted customer.

Or perhaps an exciting new order that makes you think, “Oh, this could really become something special!”

And it absolutely could!

But here’s something I’d love you to consider.

What if the price you choose could make a remarkable difference – not only to what your customers purchase, but to the future of the business you’re building?

You see, throughout my years of working with + evaluating businesses, I’ve learned that some of the most important business decisions aren’t always the most visible ones.

And pricing is certainly one of them!

Because the amount a customer pays is only one part of the financial story.

What it costs you to create, provide + deliver your offer matters, too.

So does the value your customers recognize, the choices available to them + the income you’d love your business to generate.

And when you begin understanding how these things work together, pricing becomes something far more exciting than simply deciding what number to put on a product page.

It becomes an opportunity to shape the financial success of your business.

✨ A Wonderful Sale Is Just the Beginning

Imagine you’ve sold a beautiful handmade product for $75.

Wonderful! Your customer loves what you’ve created – and you’ve made a sale!

But how much of that $75 could actually contribute toward the income you hope to earn?

And what if a thoughtful change to your pricing, costs or offer could make that sale even more rewarding?

These are the kinds of exciting opportunities that become easier to recognize when you understand the financial story behind your business.

Because wise pricing decisions can influence more than what you earn today. They can help shape the business – and the future – you’re creating.

💛 Price Wisely. Build for the Future You Envision.

Now, I want you to know something.

You don’t need to be a financial expert to begin making thoughtful pricing decisions.

And you certainly don’t need to have every number figured out before you start exploring your possibilities.

But understanding a few important business principles can help you make much wiser choices from the very beginning.

Whether you’re preparing to sell your first product, introducing a new service or reviewing the prices in an established online boutique, there’s wonderful value in understanding what your offers earn – and what they could earn.

Because your goal isn’t simply to make sales.

It’s to build a business where the value you create for your customers can also create meaningful financial rewards for YOU.

And the more thoughtfully you approach that opportunity, the better equipped you’ll be to make decisions that support your ambitions, your freedom + the future you envision.

So, shall we explore how to price your wonderful offers in ways that make sense for your customers – and for the business you dream of building? 🦋

✨ Your Price Is More Than a Number

Have you ever wondered why two businesses can sell similar products or services at very different prices – and both attract happy customers?

Perhaps you’ve noticed a beautiful handbag selling for $45 in one boutique, while another offers a handbag for $175.

Or maybe you’ve discovered two professionals offering similar services, yet one charges considerably more than the other.

Now, does that automatically mean the more expensive option is better?

Of course not!

And does the less expensive option necessarily offer better value?

Not at all.

You see, customers aren’t simply choosing a price.

They’re deciding whether what they’ll receive is worth what they’re being asked to pay.

And that decision can be influenced by far more than the product or service itself.

💛 What Makes a Price Feel Worthwhile?

Imagine you’re shopping for a beautiful handbag.

Perhaps one option is exactly what you’re looking for: a lovely design, practical features + a price that fits comfortably within your budget.

Wonderful!

But another handbag might offer exceptional craftsmanship, carefully selected materials, thoughtful personalization or a design you absolutely adore.

And perhaps those differences make it worth paying more – to YOU.

Someone else might happily choose the first handbag.

And that could be an equally wise decision for them!

Because value isn’t simply about how much something costs. It’s about what the customer believes they’re receiving in return.

The same principle applies to services.

A customer looking for a quick, straightforward consultation may appreciate a simple, affordable option.

Another might gladly invest more in a comprehensive experience that includes specialized expertise, personalized guidance + additional attention.

Neither customer is necessarily making a better decision.

They’re choosing what best suits their needs, preferences + circumstances.

✨ Your Price Also Creates Expectations

Here’s something else worth considering.

The price you choose can influence what customers expect from your offer.

A premium price may lead customers to anticipate exceptional quality, specialized expertise or a particularly thoughtful experience.

A more accessible price may appeal to customers who appreciate a straightforward solution, convenience or an option that fits comfortably within their budget.

And both approaches can create wonderful business opportunities!

What matters is that your price, the value you’re offering + the experience your customers receive work beautifully together.

When customers choose to invest more, they should have meaningful reasons to appreciate that additional value.

And when you offer something at a more accessible price, you can still create an experience that leaves customers absolutely delighted with their choice.

The magic isn't in charging MORE or LESS.

It's in creating value your customers LOVE - and pricing it WISELY!

And that opens up some exciting possibilities for your own business!

Perhaps your offer provides something especially valuable that customers would gladly pay more to enjoy.

Maybe you could introduce a simpler version for customers with different needs or budgets.

Or perhaps your current price is already a wonderful fit – but there are opportunities to improve what your business earns from each sale.

You see, the goal isn’t simply to charge the highest price or attract customers with the lowest. It’s to find a price that makes sense for your customers + supports the business you’re building.

And that brings us to something especially worth exploring.

When a customer happily purchases your offer, how much of that sale could actually become profit for your business?

💰 Understand What You Really Earn From Every Sale

Well, my wise friend, here’s something that can make a remarkable difference to the way you think about your business.

The money your customers pay you isn’t necessarily the money your business earns as profit.

A wonderful sale brings a smile.

A profitable business can help bring your bigger dreams to life!

So, let’s follow the money!

Imagine you’ve created a lovely online boutique selling beautiful handmade candles.

You’ve decided to offer one of your candles for $40.

A customer discovers it, absolutely loves it + places an order.

Wonderful! You’ve made a $40 sale!

Let’s discover what happens to that $40 – and what could remain for your business.

✨ What Happens to Your $40 Sale?

Imagine that creating + fulfilling each candle order involves these expenses:

Your Candle Sale

Amount

💛 Your selling price

$40.00

Wax, fragrance + wick

$7.00

Candle container

$4.00

Packaging materials

$2.00

Payment processing + other per-order fees

$2.00

Total direct costs per sale

$15.00

Amount remaining after direct costs

$25.00

Now, isn’t that interesting?

Your customer paid $40.

You spent $15 on the costs directly associated with that sale.

And $25 remains to help cover your other business expenses + contribute toward profit.

But – and this is important – that $25 isn’t necessarily your profit!

💛 What About Your Other Business Expenses?

For our example, we’ll keep the direct costs at $15 per candle, as we calculated above.

Now, let’s imagine your boutique also has $500 in monthly business expenses – perhaps for your website, business tools, insurance, marketing + other resources that help keep your business running.

We’ll keep the numbers simple so you can easily see how sales, expenses + profit work together.

Ready to see what happens when you sell 40 candles in one month?

Your Monthly Candle Business - An Illustration

Your Monthly Results

Amount

💛 40 candles sold × $40

$1,600

Direct costs: 40 × $15

-$600

Remaining after direct costs

$1,000

Other monthly business expenses

-$500

Illustrative monthly operating profit

$500

There we go!

Your boutique generated $1,600 in sales revenue.

But after the expenses included in our example, it earned $500 in operating profit.

That’s a very different number, isn’t it?

And remember, this is a simplified illustration. Your actual business may have additional expenses, including labor, taxes or other costs that need to be considered.

🌟 Here's Where It Gets Especially Interesting!

Now, imagine you discover that your customers would happily pay $45 for this same candle because they genuinely appreciate its quality, fragrance + presentation.

And suppose your direct costs remain at $15 per candle.

Let’s compare what happens if you sell the same number of candles at each price.

At $40

At $45

💛 Selling price per candle

$40

$45

Direct costs per candle

$15

$15

Amount remaining per sale

$25

$30

Monthly sales volume

40

40

Remaining after direct costs

$1,000

$1,200

Other monthly expenses

$500

$500

Illustrative operating profit

$500

$700

Look at that!

A $5 difference in selling price – assuming customers continue purchasing the same quantity – could increase the illustrated monthly operating profit from $500 to $700.

That’s a 40% increase in operating profit, even though the selling price increased by only 12.5%.

Now, this doesn’t mean you should automatically raise your prices!

Customers may respond differently to a higher price, and the number of sales you make could change.

But it does show something important.

A relatively small change in pricing can sometimes make a surprisingly large difference to your business’s financial results.

And that’s why understanding your numbers is so valuable.

🦋 Your Numbers Can Reveal Wonderful Opportunities

Once you begin understanding what each sale contributes to your business, you can make much more thoughtful decisions.

Perhaps you’ll discover that an offer needs a different price.

Maybe you’ll recognize opportunities to manage expenses more efficiently.

Or perhaps you’ll see that some products + services contribute more meaningfully to your financial goals than others.

The important thing isn’t simply how much money comes into your business.

It’s understanding how much remains, what it needs to cover + how your decisions can help your business become more profitable.

Because when you understand the numbers behind your offers, you’re better equipped to create a business that rewards the value you provide – and supports the future you’re working toward. 🦋

💛 Discover a Price That Works for Your Customers + Your Business

Now that you’ve seen how much difference your pricing decisions can make, you might be wondering:

How do I actually decide what to charge?

Well, my wise friend, here’s the exciting part.

You don’t have to choose a price simply because someone else charges it – or because it happens to sound like a nice number!

You can make a thoughtful business decision based on what your customers value, what it takes to deliver your offer + what you want your business to achieve.

And there are a few important things worth exploring.

✨ Begin With What Your Customers Value

Start by considering what your customers would gladly pay for the benefits your offer provides.

Imagine you’re offering a professional organizing service.

One customer may want help organizing a closet. Another may happily invest more in a complete home organization experience with thoughtful planning, hands-on assistance + beautifully organized spaces.

Both can be wonderful opportunities – but they may call for very different prices.

The more clearly you understand what your ideal customers value, the better equipped you are to choose a price they’ll recognize as worthwhile.

🦋 Look at the Alternatives - Without Letting Them Decide for You

It’s wise to explore what customers might choose instead of your offer.

What do similar products or services cost? What do those alternatives include? And what makes your offer different?

This research can help you understand the expectations customers may already have.

But here’s something important:

Other businesses’ prices are useful information – not instructions for what YOU must charge.

Your offer may provide a different experience, serve a different customer or deliver additional value.

And those differences deserve consideration.

💰 Make Sure the Numbers Work for Your Business

Now bring your attention back to the financial side.

Consider what it actually costs to deliver your offer, including the time, materials, services + other resources involved.

If you’re offering a service, remember to account for more than the time spent directly with your customer.

Preparation, communication, travel, revisions + follow-up can all be part of delivering a wonderful experience.

Then consider what remains after those costs – and whether that amount can contribute enough toward your other business expenses, your financial goals + the income you hope to earn.

A price may sound attractive to customers, but if it doesn’t allow your business to become financially sustainable, it’s worth reconsidering.

🌟 Consider What Happens as Your Business Grows

Here’s another opportunity that’s easy to overlook.

The price that works for ten sales may not necessarily be the best price for a hundred.

And a service that feels profitable when you’re serving two customers a week may become much less rewarding if delivering it leaves you with little time for anything else.

So think beyond the individual sale.

How many customers could you realistically serve? How much time would fulfilling those orders require? And what would your business earn at that level of activity?

The goal is not simply to make more sales. It’s to create a business where the sales you make can meaningfully contribute to the life you want to live.

💛 Your Price Can Evolve as You Learn

And here’s something encouraging.

You don’t have to discover one perfect price that you’ll never change.

As you learn more about your customers, your costs + the results your offers achieve, you can revisit your pricing thoughtfully.

You might test a different price, improve how you communicate your offer’s value or refine what you include.

Then pay attention to what actually happens.

Are customers purchasing? Are they delighted with their experience? And is your business earning enough from those sales to support your goals?

Those answers can help you make increasingly wise decisions.

Because pricing isn’t about guessing what might work and hoping for the best.

It’s about learning, evaluating + making thoughtful choices that create wonderful value for your customers while building a more rewarding business for YOU. 🦋

Your Wise Pricing + Profitability Guide 🦋

Now, my wise friend, let’s turn everything we’ve explored into something you can begin using for your own business!

Whether you’re preparing to sell your very first product, introducing a new service or reconsidering the prices in an established business, a few thoughtful questions can help you see your opportunities more clearly.

And you don’t need to have all the answers today.

The important thing is to begin looking at your pricing with the curiosity + confidence of a wise business owner!

Six Wise Questions to Explore Your Pricing 🦋

1. What wonderful value does my offer create for my customers?

Think about the benefits, experiences or results your customers receive – and what makes those benefits meaningful to them.

2. What are my customers willing to pay for that value?

Consider what you’ve learned from customer conversations, actual purchases + the choices customers make when comparing available solutions.

3. What other options could my customers choose?

Explore comparable offers, their prices + the experiences they provide. Look for opportunities to make your own value easier to recognize.

4. What does it really cost me to deliver each sale?

Include materials, transaction fees, fulfillment, labor + any other costs directly associated with providing your product or service.

5. How much could each sale contribute toward my business expenses + financial goals?

Look beyond the selling price to understand what remains after direct costs – and what that amount needs to help cover.

6. How many sales could I realistically make + fulfill while building the business and life I want?

Consider customer demand, your available time, your capacity to deliver + what your business could earn at different sales levels.

Angela's Wise Perspective

There’s something I’ve learned from years of working with businesses of all kinds, including some of the world’s largest organizations.

More sales don't automatically mean more success.

A business can attract more customers, sell more products + generate increasingly impressive revenue – and still discover that very little of that money remains as profit.

And sometimes, growing sales can create an entirely new set of demands on the business owner’s time, resources + finances.

That’s why I’ve always believed it’s important to look beyond how much a business sells and consider how well the business actually works.

Are its offers creating value that customers genuinely appreciate?

Are its prices supporting healthy financial results?

And as the business grows, is that growth creating greater opportunities – or simply more work?

You see, the decisions that shape a successful business are connected.

A change in price can influence customer demand. Customer demand can influence how much you need to produce, deliver or manage. And those decisions, in turn, can affect your costs, profitability + the time you have available for everything else that matters in your life.

This is why I encourage you to think of pricing as more than deciding what number to place beside your offer.

Think of it as one of the important decisions that helps shape the business – and the future – you’re creating.

Because the goal isn’t to build a business that keeps you endlessly busy.

It’s to build a business that works beautifully for your customers, rewards you for the value you create + makes more of the life you dream of possible. 🦋

💫👟 Your Next Wise Step

Ready to put a little wise pricing wisdom to work?

Choose ONE product or service – something you already sell or would love to offer.

You don’t need perfect numbers to begin. Just take that first thoughtful look – and let what you discover guide your next wise decision.
